Fly Casting / Fly Fishing Fly fishing is a true art form, and one difficult and frustrating to master. A process that could take years to obtain basic knowledge on your own can be simplified greatly by taking a class or hiring an instructor. Casting a fly-rod is only one small component of the whole process. One must learn the equipment involved and how to choose the right equipment for the environment being fished. Beyond the equipment, one must learn entomology, obtaining a drag-free drift, knot-tying (backing to spool, fly-line to backing, leader to fly line, tippet to leader, fly to tippet), various fishing techniques (dry-fly vs. wet-fly vs. streamer vs. nymphing) wading safety, and a whole host of other skills that will make your day on the river much more productive.
